On the eve of the decisive fight of the Podolsk boxer Nikolai Potapov for the title of US champion, which will take place on March 10 in Detroit, the RIAMO in Podolsk columnist met with the President of the Professional Boxing Federation of the Moscow Region and Podolsk fight league(PBL) Pavel Popov. He told why this fight is so important, how the athlete is preparing for it and what they are doing in Podolsk for the development of sports.
- What kind of battle is the Podolsk boxer going to fight?
This is a truly grand event, because boxer Nikolai Potapov, a member of the Podolsk Fighting League, will represent Podolsk on March 10 in the USA in Detroit at the MGM Grand Detroit casino in the fight for the title of American champion. His fight with Antonio Nives will be the main event of the evening. Nikolai is 27 years old, he spent 16 fights, Antonio is 29 years old, and he has 17 fights. They will compete for the WBO NABO bantamweight title at 53.5kg. Now this title belongs to Nives, he ranks fourth in the WBO rankings, and Potapov eighth. This tournament is very important for us, because after it Nikolai will be able to claim a fight for the title of world champion in one of the main versions. We have been moving towards this goal for five years, since the creation of the PBL. The WBO bantamweight world champion is 24-year-old Marlon Tapales from the Philippines, who will fight against contenders for his title. Fans will be able to watch the duel Potapov - Nives on the federal channel "Match TV", the broadcast will begin at about six o'clock in the morning.
- Why in America?
Because today it is there that the Mecca of boxing is located. A boxer should be recognizable not only in Russia, but all over the world. If a boxer is known in the USA, then he is known everywhere. In addition, the promotion of an athlete there is faster than in Russia, since there are many more events of a serious level in America. We can say that this is to some extent a political battle between Russia and the United States, since we are still fighting for the belt of the American champion. It will be a real boxing show from the promotional company Salita Promotions.
We are moving towards our goal together with our partners from Salita Promotions, organized by people from the post-Soviet republics. It was they who, having assessed Potapov's potential, proposed a scheme for his effective promotion on the world boxing arena. In Russia, it has recently become difficult to hold global large-scale events, and we agreed. Although before that they independently held several events, the level of which each time became higher and higher. The fights were broadcast on the Fight Club and Fighter TV channels.
When we reach the goal and the title of world champion, we will be able to hold the same events in Russia. This is very important, because in our country there are practically no belts left, our athletes have lost them for various reasons, including due to inadequate refereeing. Currently, Denis Lebedev, Murat Gassiev and Umar Salamov each have one belt. If we win the belt, we will try to make sure that next fight was held in Russia, not in England, although one champion is now there, one in Thailand, one in the USA.
- How is the preparation of Nikolai going?
This will be our third fight in the USA. Based on the experience of previous years, we decided to prepare on the spot, so on February 1, Potapov flew to America. He will have time to rebuild, acclimatize and completely immerse himself in the training process. Potapov is in a specialized sports camp, where excellent living conditions have been created for him, food and doctors have been selected for him. What is important, they found excellent sparring partners for our boxer, videos of training fights are constantly sent to me. Nikolay added to his work on his feet - he became faster and more maneuverable, plus the new American coach emphasized work on power punches, and these are a series of punches. He got a much harder hit. This is important, because in the fight for the American champion belt, we need to win by 100% - if the fight is equal or with a slight advantage, the judges will not give us the victory.

Do you expect to win by knockout?
When we had our first fight in the USA, we set up Nikolai to win by knockout. But now they realized that a boxer should just do his job. Don't aim for a knockout. The goal is to win. If a boxer is set up only for a knockout, it will not lead to anything good. There should be beautiful boxing and a confident victory. The opponent is not easy, we watched the video of his fights with Nikolai, he is in no way inferior to our athlete. Plus, he's American, so we need to be much better and stronger.

- Have measures been taken to protect against allegations of doping?
In the promotion company Salita Promotions, this issue is clearly controlled. The company has specialists who are responsible for this. When an athlete enters a new level of battle for the belt, this issue becomes one of the most important and requires special control. For example, analyzes are taken in parallel in several independent laboratories, so that later there is something to compare with. Authorized employees are present during sampling, their study. In addition, I know for sure that Nikolai does not accept anything forbidden. Partners keep everything under control, our boxer even eats food in a certain place, especially on the days before the match. Water at competitions is supplied specially packaged, it is purchased in one place so that nothing can be added to the boxers before the fight.
- How big is the delegation going to support Potapov?
About ten people, including our friends and athletes. A large delegation for support is not needed, when the third fight took place in New York, then about 40% of the audience were Russian speakers, because a very large Russian diaspora lives there. There are also many Russian speakers in Detroit. They are waiting for this fight and will support our athlete. We return with Nikolai together - first we will have a flight from Detroit to New York, then to Moscow on March 12th. The whole of Podolsk will be rooting for him here, and his whole extended family.

- What else does PBL do?
PBL deals not only with professional boxers, we also organize children's boxing tournaments. The next one is scheduled for May. These are one-day tournaments attended by about 60-70 children from Moscow and neighboring regions. We take care of the judges and fees. We try to stimulate children and make meaningful gifts for them. That year, we handed out about 20 pairs of gloves to the kids from the Kosmos sports school. This week we bought 25 more pairs of gloves with our logo for guys who excelled in boxing. Alexander Povetkin and Denis Lebedev will come to the ceremony and sign the gloves for the kids. We strive to encourage and encourage children to reach the same heights as our legends - Lebedev and Povetkin.
Most importantly, sports are free of charge, children can take part in competitions. We cooperate with the Federation of Greco-Roman wrestling and Sergey Ivlev, with the PCSK "Vityaz" and Dmitry Volodin. Sections work in "Sport-Service" and in "Cosmos". We have a very good amateur boxing school, which was created by coaches, for example, Georgy Zakernichny. Promoting boxers in professional boxing requires a lot of investment. The groups are now full. There is a great need for the construction of new sports facilities in Podolsk.
We help develop a sports lifestyle in general. Recently, together with the Minister of Sports of the Moscow Region Roman Teryushkov and Stroyinvest-3, they opened three multifunctional playgrounds for children in the Chekhov District. They can play basketball, volleyball, football. For the second year we are developing a project for the construction of a children's sports camp in the Crimea in the village of Olenevka. Enlisted the support of the head of the Republic of Crimea. We have been allocated land plot on the seashore. One of my partners specially moved to Simferopol. We hope we all sign Required documents in the near future and we will begin the construction of a sports camp with a specialization in boxing. We presented this project to Sergey Vvedensky, the director of the sports school of the Olympic reserve for boxing in the Moscow region, and he approved it. Because there are very few children's camps for young boxers. Priority will be given to children from Moscow region. It is planned to take about 100 people per shift.
All these projects became possible thanks to the help of our friends Vitaly Skorokhodov (Vagant shopping center), who himself has been boxing for many years, Sergey Shlyapnikov (Rus Beer), who always attends events and has been helping us for a long time, Stroyinvest -3". - How will your project of the National Boxing Star Award develop?
At the end of 2016, on January 31, the IV National Boxing Star Award was successfully held in Moscow, where we presented awards for achievements in amateur and professional boxing. The event was broadcast by six TV channels. We are going to hold the next - the fifth award in Crocus City on a site designed for two thousand people, since the Golden Palace entertainment complex no longer accommodates everyone. As part of the award, we have united professional boxers and veterans and amateur Olympians. In the future, we will continue this tradition and encourage the winners of the World and European Championships. The anniversary award will be held in late January - early February 2018.
The name of Sergey Nikolaevich Lalakin does not sound from TV screens. It is difficult to find his name in the newspapers, but everyone who is familiar with the behind the scenes of Russian boxing undoubtedly knows how much this man has done for the development of this sport in Russia.
On September 6, in Balashikha, near Moscow, the grand opening of the new sports club "Vityaz" took place. Many eminent guests came to rejoice at the appearance of such a landmark sports facility for the entire Moscow region, in which 1000 children will be able to play at once! It is not surprising that among the guests of honor we met Sergey Nikolaevich Lalakin.
Sergei Nikolayevich is the chairman of the Heritage Charitable Foundation and the Board of Trustees of the Podolsky Sports Club Vityaz. The Fund pays great attention to the development of children's and youth sports, supports the Favorit equestrian sports complex, the Tennis Academy. "Heritage" provides assistance to veterans, families of fallen soldiers, children's educational institutions, boarding schools, orphanages, medical institutions. Sergei Nikolaevich Lalakin is also a member of the supervisory boards of the Union of Russian Paratroopers and the Russian Paralympic Committee.
For his merits, he was awarded the medal of the Order "For Merit to the Fatherland" II degree, the nominal watch of the President of Russia, the medal "For fidelity to duty and the Fatherland", honorary signs "For the revival of Russia" of the highest, I degree and II degree, "For services to the city ” I degree, with the Order of the Presidential Star. Recently it became known that for an outstanding contribution to the development of the Paralympic Movement, Sergei Nikolayevich was awarded the Order of Friendship. The Heritage Foundation supported our Paralympic supporters. Thanks to this assistance, at the Winter Paralympics in Sochi, Russian athletes managed to set a new world record in the unofficial medal count for the number of medals won.
There were a lot of people at the opening of the Vityaz sports club and, as always, near Sergei Nikolayevich, and he unexpectedly invited us to come to his office to chat in a more relaxed atmosphere.
A few days later, we drove to the Federation of Professional Boxing of the Moscow Region and, together with the head of the Federation and the president of the Podolsk Fighting League, Pavel Popov, went to a meeting.
In a quiet, comfortable office, it immediately becomes clear what the Heritage Charitable Foundation is doing. The walls are hung with colorful photographs of sports veterans, stadiums and health centers. Numerous letters of thanks and diplomas from various sports federations of Russia and other countries hang in the reception area.
Sergey Nikolayevich began the conversation with an emotional story about the impression that the fight made on him at the M-1 Challenge 51 mixed martial arts show, where the middleweight champion Ramazan Emeev and Vyacheslav Vasilevsky met. Vasilevsky in a dramatic battle technical knockout defeated Emeev and became the new champion. “I couldn't sleep today. Vasilevsky fought with Ramazanov. Ramazanov has a belt. They put up such a fight! Here are such hematomas filled each other! Walked for an hour and a half at night. I can't sleep and…”
- Sergey Nikolaevich, how are things progressing with the development of the Vityaz sports club?
Sixteen Vityaz clubs are currently operating on the territory of our country. As you have seen for yourselves, Eduard Khusainov recently opened the head Academy "Vityaz". In addition, he opened three additional boxing gyms in the Balashikha region. The geography is very wide: Klin, Vladivostok, Kursk, Kaluga, Podolsk, Chekhov, Lvovsky... There is such a village in our area. But there are as many as 100 people involved! And there is boxing and wrestling. The queue, the sections are full. They also opened a martial arts hall at the Ryazan Airborne School. Even Dmitry Anatolyevich Medvedev went there and looked.
About the Academy in Balashikha, it is better to ask Eduard Rishadovich Khusainov. He knows more about her. We helped finance its reconstruction. For our part, we allocated eight million rubles. In total, about 50 million rubles were spent on the reconstruction. This is the people's money. They did not meet for one day. Eduard Khusainov and his relatives, familiar businessmen earned and allocated money for repairs.
We walked, looked, everything is done very well. The photographs show what was there originally and what is now. All rooms are clean and tidy.
Edik Khusainov lives in boxing. He has his own house not completed, where he should live with his family and children, and the gym is already ready. He could do home repairs. This suggests that he is an ambitious person and wants champions to be born in Balashikha. Moreover, he has unspoken “competitions” with Anatoly Mikhailovich Petrov, who also has boxing gyms in Balashikha. Petrov was the first to discover them, and I egged Edik on, gave him an idea, and he began to develop it like this.
Now we are planning to open the Vityaz gym together with Alexander Povetkin in Vladimir, where boxing has always been at a good level, but now it is lagging behind. As soon as Sasha fights in October, we will return to this issue. We will also open a sports hall in Tula. Our partners came and asked. We will open. But it is easy to open something and give money. This is the easiest. It is necessary to attract local "bourgeois" who would spend money on sports.
For example, Dmitry Postnov, he was a two-time world champion in kickboxing. He opened such a hall in Klin! Dmitry was the first to take a map of Russia and began to mark with flags where our “Knights” were stationed. The only thing we did was give him a bus. We will give the same to the Balashikha athletes. In Kursk, we are making the third hall together with the Vityaz special unit. We also plan to open a branch in St. Petersburg soon.
Here in Podolsk, Pavel Popov, the president of the Podolsk Fighting League, works more than anyone else in this area. He holds all boxing tournaments at the proper level. Therefore, today we decided to open a sports boxing club “Vityaz” in Podolsk. Pavel Popov will deal with it. I think that Podolsk is worthy of our eminent club.
Now we will open several more clubs, we will hold a master tournament, the Vityaz championship. For example, 15-20 teams will come, there will be a champion of Vityaz, a master of sports right away.
But there are also problems. For example, in the homeland of the world boxing champion, Yuri Alexandrov, in Kamensk-Uralsk, they decided to open a large complex. To be honest, we invested 20 million rubles there, and this money, consider it, was gone. A hall for a thousand people was being built, but the money disappeared somewhere. All funds were stolen. They are now coming to us from there, throwing up their hands. We tell them: “Do something, for example, sell this building. Maybe it’s better to build somewhere else?” Didn't work out there with the club. We even asked Mr. Deripaska to help. He has big factories there, but somehow he did not react.
